Shakeel Mohamed has officially stepped into the role of Acting Prime Minister, pledging to lead the nation with “serenity and stability” over the next five days.

The transition took effect Tuesday evening, 14 April, following the departure of Navin Ramgoolam, who is currently in the Republic of Congo.

Mr Ramgoolam is attending the formal inauguration ceremony of President Denis Sassou Nguesso.

In his first remarks after assuming the post, Mr Mohamed struck a reflective tone, revealing that he had turned to faith to guide his short tenure.

“I have asked God to give me courage and vision,” he stated. “I pray to be worthy of the trust placed in me, so that during the next five days, we can lead the country in serenity and stability.”

Despite the weight of the office, the Acting Prime Minister insisted that the temporary promotion would not alter his professional habits or personal dedication to his constituents.

Maintaining that “respect for routine remains essential,” Mr Mohamed noted that his first full day in the role on Tuesday began as usual with a scheduled meeting with members of his constituency.

He emphasised that, in his view, the heightened responsibility does not change his daily life or approach to service.
