Mechanic Finds 2 Types of Illicit Drugs Hidden In Police Vehicle
Synthetic drugs and psychotropic substances have been discovered concealed inside a Mauritian police vehicle during a routine maintenance check at a dealership in Pailles.
The shocking find was made on Friday, 3 April, by a mechanic tasked with servicing the vehicle.
Upon discovering the illicit substances, the worker immediately alerted the authorities, sparking a high-level investigation by the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU).
Specialist Unit Under Scrutiny
The vehicle in question is assigned to a specialist unit within the Port-Louis North division.
This particular unit has previously faced scrutiny regarding its controversial intervention methods.
Following the discovery, officers attached to the unit are expected to be summoned for questioning by the anti-drug brigade.
Ongoing Investigation
Investigators are currently working to establish how the drugs came to be inside the police vehicle.
The ADSU probe aims to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify those responsible for the presence of the psychotropes and synthetic substances.
The case has raised significant questions regarding internal oversight, though officials have yet to confirm if any arrests are imminent.
