Civil Service Travel Grants: Government Approves Rs 50 Million Emergency Funding
The Cabinet has authorised an additional MUR 50 million to settle outstanding passage benefits for civil servants after the original budget was completely exhausted.
The decision, reached during a council meeting on Friday, 27 February 2026, aims to address a significant funding gap.
A total of MUR 1.1 billion had been allocated for the 2025-2026 Budget, but these funds were entirely spent by the end of November 2025, leaving numerous applications in limbo since December.
Priority Payouts
Under the new agreement, the MUR 50 million injection will be strictly prioritised. The funding is reserved for:
- Applications submitted before the end of December 2025.
- New claims specifically for travel, medical treatment, or educational purposes, provided they are supported by documentary evidence.
Deferrals and Future Payments
For all other applications, civil servants face a waiting period. The Cabinet confirmed that payments for pending files and new requests made for non-essential purposes will be deferred until July 2026.
Officials clarified that those who applied before the end of December 2025 will receive their full payments in July.
These settlements will be processed under the same conditions that existed prior to the implementation of the PRB 2026 Report.
The move is intended to guarantee the rights of public sector workers while managing the current budgetary constraints.
