Indian Tech Reviewer Alleges Racism at 5 Star Mauritius Resort Over Easter
An Indian technology reviewer has sparked a viral debate after alleging he and his family were subjected to systemic racism and “selective” service at a five-star Mauritian resort.
The reviewer, known online as @Starcommander10, claimed that staff at the Anantara Iko resort prioritised white European guests while leaving his family to “beg” for food.
The incident, which reportedly cost the reviewer approximately MUR 222,000, allegedly took place during an Easter holiday stay intended as a gift for his parents.
According to the reviewer’s account on X, the family was excluded from a special Easter lunch event that other guests had been invited to.
After being told by reception at 1:00 PM to wait for a table due to limited availability, the family discovered the ongoing celebration only after being informed by a European guest.
‘Begging’ for Service
The situation reportedly escalated when the family remained without a table by 2:30 PM.
The reviewer described a distressing scene where his mother was forced to approach a member of the housekeeping staff to “literally beg” for assistance in finding a meal.
“My mom then went to an old housekeeping lady staff and literally begged if we can have lunch somewhere,” he wrote.
The staff member eventually guided them to the Easter event area, where seating and food were available.
Allegations of Selective Treatment
The reviewer further detailed specific instances of “unequal treatment” during the buffet service:
- The “Fries” Incident: The reviewer claimed that after being told by a chef that no French fries were left, the tray was immediately replenished for a white child who made the same request moments later.
- Lack of Redress: When the issue was raised with the duty manager, the reviewer alleges that the feedback was simply noted without an apology.
- Safety Concerns: The reviewer explained that he delayed speaking publicly about the ordeal until now due to concerns regarding his personal safety at the time.
Debate Over Luxury Hospitality
While the reviewer praised the natural beauty of Mauritius and its local population, he maintained that the specific property failed to treat Indian guests with the same level of respect as Western tourists.
The allegations have since gained significant traction online, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding discrimination within the luxury hospitality sector. A
t the time of reporting, the Anantara Iko resort has not issued a public statement or response to the claims.
