800 Families in Sodnac Demand Action over Dangerous Levels of Municipal Neglect
Residents of Avenue des Tulipes in Sodnac have voiced their outrage over the “abandonment” of their district, claiming that municipal neglect has transformed their once-maintained streets into a sanctuary for thieves and drug users.
Nearly 800 families living between the Hillcrest Avenue junction and the Dreamton Park apartments in Quatre-Bornes report a severe decline in living standards.
They allege that a total lack of regular maintenance has allowed high weeds and accumulated waste to overrun the area, creating significant sanitary nuisances and security risks.
A Decade of Standards Collapses
According to local inhabitants, the current state of the avenue stands in stark contrast to the service provided for over ten years.
Previously, two municipal employees were dispatched monthly to trim vegetation and clean the roadsides, ensuring the area remained safe for pedestrians.
“This basic public service functioned. It guaranteed the quality of life,” residents explained, noting that all maintenance appears to have ceased following the arrival of the new municipal administration.
Security and Health Fears
The area is now described by locals as a “veritable dumping ground,” littered with refuse and abandoned vehicle shells. The primary concerns cited by the 800 affected families include:
- Criminal Activity: Tall weeds provide cover for thieves and drug addicts, heightening local insecurity.
- Public Health: A proliferation of mosquitoes has created a “real sanitary risk.”
- Vulnerable Groups: The degradation is severely impacting the daily lives of children, the elderly, and those with reduced mobility.
- Financial Impact: Homeowners report a decline in property values due to the deteriorating surroundings.
Calls for Action Ignored
Despite repeated attempts to resolve the issue through official channels—including contacts with the municipality, a local MP, and the Mayor—residents claim they have received nothing but empty promises.
“We are not asking for privileges,” the group stated. “We are simply asking that the municipality does its job.”
Residents maintain that the lack of concrete action continues to compromise the safety and well-being of the entire community.
