A serving police officer has been taken into custody following the seizure of 32kg of narcotics from two French nationals at the international airport last week. The officer, identified as 32-year-old Bundhun, is a member of the Passport and Immigration Office. He is the third suspect to be arrested in connection with the major haul, which included hashish, cannabis, and cocaine.

Allegations of Conspiracy

Investigators from the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) suspect Bundhun of conspiracy to facilitate the activities of the drug mules.

Authorities believe he acted in collusion with the two women to aid their entry or operations within the country.

The two French nationals, Noelise Johan and Ilhem Nadia Berrabha, were intercepted by officials upon their arrival in Mauritius on Wednesday, 21 January.

Search and Legal Proceedings

A subsequent search of the officer’s residence by ADSU detectives led to the discovery of two canisters of tear gas.

According to reports, one of the canisters had already been discharged, while the other remained unused.

Bundhun is expected to be brought before a magistrate this Monday, 26 January, to face a provisional charge of conspiracy.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities probe the extent of the network involved.
