Suren Surat, CEO of SKC Surat, highlighted that the SKC Safer programme is a unique initiative specifically designed for the Mauritian market.
It focuses on sustainable agriculture, controlled supply chain management, and fruit and vegetable quality.
The programme involves significant company-funded investments in specialised transport, cutting-edge technology, comprehensive farmer training, and continuous support.
Mr. Surat stated this aligns with the Ministry’s vision to leave a lasting legacy, positioning SKC Surat as a pioneer in the production of safe fruits and vegetables in Mauritius.
Public Health and Awareness Drive
In conjunction with the awards, SKC Surat announced the launch of a national advertising campaign.
This initiative aims to raise public awareness about the benefits of the SKC Safer programme and encourage the responsible consumption of safe, quality fruits and vegetables.
The company hopes to strengthen consumer trust and share good agricultural practices with the wider community.
SKC Surat also affirmed its broader commitment to public health by actively participating in the Pink October cancer prevention workshop, highlighting the health benefits of a safe and healthy diet.
The ceremony concluded with a shared vision among sector stakeholders for a healthier, safer, and future-focused Mauritius.
The SKC Safer Commitment
Founded in the late 1950s by the late Sooklall Surat, SKC Surat has grown to be a leading supplier of fresh fruits and vegetables in Mauritius.
The SKC Safer brand, launched in 2017, is symbolised by a seal certifying fresh and healthy produce. It rests on three core commitments: sustainable agriculture, rigorous supply controls, and verification of compliance with established standards.
Produce is traceable back to its source, and handling methods follow strict protocols for optimal hygiene, safety, and freshness. SKC Safer holds HACCP certification, with regular quality checks conducted both in the field and in the laboratory.
SKC Surat collaborates closely with local planters, offering technical and administrative assistance, controlling the use of chemicals, and planning harvest schedules to optimise production.
