Former Director Accuses Afrinic Ltd Receiver Manager of Serious Misconduct

A Ghanaian national and former director of the Pan-African Internet registry, Afrinic Ltd, has accused a receiver manager of grave irregularities and abuse of position. The individual, who is also the former chairman of the board of directors, made the allegations during a two-day testimony on September 9th and 10th at the Financial Crime Commission.

The accuser is claiming the receiver manager’s impartiality is severely compromised due to a conflict of interest.

He alleged that the receiver manager holds a directorship at a company that is currently embroiled in legal disputes with Afrinic.

This company was registered in Mauritius, where the receiver manager is also based.

The former director also alleges the official tried to influence the Registrar of Companies to grant membership and shareholding status to the disputed company, despite ongoing legal challenges. He claims this action shows a clear intent to favour the firm.

Concerns were also raised about the speed of internal elections, with the exclusively online vote due to conclude on December 12th, 2025.

This unprecedented move, he argues, deprives stakeholders of a transparent process and genuine participation.

These accusations are more than a simple shareholder dispute. Afrinic is the sole regional IP address registry for Africa, and its neutrality is crucial for the proper functioning of the internet on the continent.

Any manipulation of its governance could undermine international trust and weaken African cybersecurity and the digital economy.

Afrinic Ltd was placed under Mauritian state supervision on July 18th, 2025, and an investigation was launched under the former President, Monique Ohsan Bellepeau.

The case sheds light on possible abuses of position and manipulation within the organisation.
