Two promising students, Selvyn Cuttignane and Divyesh Nath Ramsaha, have been awarded the prestigious MCB Foundation Scholarships for 2024 and 2025. The announcement was made in a press release issued by the MCB on Thursday.

The two laureates, aged 20 and 19 respectively, excelled in their Higher School Certificate (HSC) exams from the 2023 and 2024 cohorts, both ranking fourth in the economics stream.

They are the 35th and 36th recipients of the university scholarship, which was established in 1988 to commemorate the MCB’s 150th anniversary.

The official award ceremony took place on Thursday afternoon, August 21, on the 13th floor of the MCB Centre in Port-Louis, with Education Minister Dr. Mahend Gungapersad in attendance.

Selvyn Cuttignane, the 35th scholar, distinguished himself with his active involvement in extracurricular activities.

He participated in the Model United Conference and quiz competitions, and was a dynamic member of his college’s finance and ecology clubs.

A disciplined student, he has practised Taekwondo for four years and currently holds a red belt.

Cuttignane has chosen to study Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics, and Economics (MMORSE) at the University of Warwick, citing his belief that numbers help develop a unique analytical ability. He plans to pursue a career in finance.

“This scholarship is the culmination of several years of effort and consistency,” said Cuttignane.

“It now represents the means for me to study in the country of my dreams, and allows me to focus fully on my studies without financial pressure.”
