Mauritius Names 19 Senior Counsel and 12 Senior Attorneys to Strengthen Judiciary
The President of Mauritius, Dharam Gokhool, has announced the appointment of 19 lawyers as Senior Counsel and 12 as Senior Attorneys, in accordance with Article 9A of the Law Practitioners Act.
The nominations, made on Thursday, 14th August, mark a significant milestone in the country’s legal sector.
Among those designated as Senior Counsel are distinguished figures such as Marie Jacques Laval Panglose, Murlidas Dulloo, Yves Marie Gérard Hein, Shaukat Ally Oozeer, Siddartha Hawoldar, Jeyarama Valayden, and Imtihaz Mamoojee.
The list also includes notable names like Jacques Denis Michel Ahnee, Michel Angelo Iu King Chee, Ghanshyamdas Bhanji Soni, Yanilla Moonshiram, Mouammar Oozeer, and others.
In addition to these appointments, twelve lawyers have been named Senior Attorneys, including Amritlall Oopuddhye Jankee, Omar Ibrahim Amode Banemia, Ravi Kumarprasad Ramdewar, Theyvarajen Modely Ponambalum, Bebakur Rampoortab, Ayesha Jeewa, and Mohamed Firoz Joonas Alimamode Hajee Abdoola among others.
The appointments are seen as a move to strengthen the country’s legal expertise and reinforce the judiciary’s capabilities as Mauritius continues to develop its legal infrastructure.
