6 Political Appointees Reshape Mauritius’ Key Regulatory Boards

A series of high-profile appointments to Mauritius’s leading public institutions has signalled the return of well-known political figures to influential roles. The shake-up affects key regulatory bodies, including the Competition Commission and the Central Procurement Board (CPB), both crucial to economic governance and public finance oversight.

Comeback for Former Labour Minister at Competition Commission

Jim Seetaram, a former Labour Party minister and Attorney General under the 2010-2014 government, has made a notable return as chair of the Competition Commission for a five-year term.

His reappointment has drawn attention, given his political history and the commission’s role in enforcing fair market practices.

The board also sees the appointment of Bibi Nabiihah Juman—daughter of Labour MP Eshan Juman—as a commissioner, alongside Thierry Chellen and reappointed members, including Vice-Chair Sandiren Jaganaden Reddi and Executive Director Vipin Naugah.

New Leadership for Public Procurement Oversight

Meanwhile, the Central Procurement Board (CPB), which oversees government spending, has a new chair: Poojanjali Baichoo, a former magistrate recently promoted to district magistrate.

She will be supported by Vice-Chairs Dev Anand Aukle and Muhammad Sadruddin Diljore, alongside three newly appointed board members—Paul Tristan Sydney Beesoo, Raymond Richard Nauvel, and Ravindranath Nundlall.

Presidential Endorsement Follows Consultations

All appointments were formally approved by President Dharam Gokhool after consultations with the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition, in line with constitutional requirements.
