Missing 19-Year-Old Student Found Safe After Police Operation

A 19-year-old student, reported missing since Tuesday morning, has been found safe and well in the early hours of Friday, 8th August, following a coordinated police operation in Saint-Pierre.

The young woman’s family, including her 45-year-old mother from Rivière-des-Anguilles, had raised the alarm after losing contact with her. According to initial reports, she had left her home at around 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday and had not been heard from since.

A joint operation was launched by the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Southern Division, led by Detective Inspector Bhujun and Deputy Assistant Superintendent of Police (DASP) Callychurn.

With support from the Police Main Command Centre, officers tracked and intercepted a suspicious vehicle on Lotus Road, Circonstance, Saint-Pierre, at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Friday.

Missing Student

Inside the car were two fishermen, both in their fifties, along with the missing student, who was seated in the rear. All three were taken to Rivière-des-Anguilles police station for questioning. One of the men was later released, while the other remained in custody.

The investigation took a new turn when a 43-year-old man from Rivière-des-Anguilles was arrested. He reportedly admitted to driving the young woman—with whom he had been in a romantic relationship—to Batterie-Cassée, where they met the primary suspect.

The detained man allegedly owed the suspect Rs 3,000, and after retrieving the money from his father, he exited the vehicle, leaving the student with the suspect. She was then taken away and remained unreachable for days.

In her official statement, the victim claimed she had been held against her will in a house in Baie-du-Tombeau by the suspect, who is now in police custody. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Detectives have urged anyone with further information to come forward as they work to piece together the events leading up to her ordeal.
