Air Mauritius has selected twelve new pilots to join its flight crew. These pilots will serve as First Officers on ATR72 aircraft. The announcement was made by the airline on July 17. The new pilots will start their careers flying the ATR72 before gradually moving on to larger aircraft.

Candidates who were not successful can try again after an 18-month cooling-off period.

This approach, used by many airlines, allows unsuccessful applicants time to improve their skills and prepare for future selection.

The twelve selected pilots include both experienced flyers and newcomers. The most experienced has logged 2,150 flight hours, while the least experienced has only 200 hours but demonstrated strong technical skills and passed cognitive and behavioral tests.

Air Mauritius aimed to recruit 28 licensed pilots through a thorough selection and training process that meets the airline’s operational and safety standards.

To give more applicants a chance, the airline expanded its recruitment effort.

Out of 73 candidates who took part in the selection, the recruitment agency Interpersonal GmbH, a subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik, found that only twelve met the required standards for operational readiness.

This recruitment is part of the Pilot Development Program of Mauritius (MPDP 2025), a strategic initiative to train a new generation of Mauritian pilots and ensure the long-term sustainability of Air Mauritius’s operations. Developing local pilots also promotes national representation.

For this initiative, Air Mauritius engaged three major international organizations specializing in pilot recruitment.

In April 2025, the airline awarded the contract to Interpersonal GmbH to develop a transparent and independent selection process.

The process included three steps: an online psychometric assessment, a simulator flight test, and a final psychometric evaluation.
