Baby car seats become ‘restricted good’: new regulations in force
Child restraint devices, commonly referred to as baby car seats, as a restricted good. The Consumer Protection (Control of Imports) Regulations 2017 will be amended so that baby car seats are in conformity to standards, hence maximising the safety and security of children travelling in vehicles.
Under the Consumer Protection (Control of Imports) (Amendment No. 2) Regulations 2021, importers will henceforth need to produce a certificate of conformity attesting compliance with the specifications of Regulations No. 44 or No.129 of the Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations.
Both regulations deal with the approval of enhanced Child Restraint Systems used on board of motor vehicles.
The Consumer Protection (Control of Imports) (Amendment No. 2) Regulations 2021 will become effective in May 2022.
