Lawyer Gayatree Dayal has resigned from the opposition MMM party amid concerns that the party is stuck in “old-school mindset”.

Dayal was an unsuccessful candidate at the 2014 and 2019 general elections. Her resignation follows that of party stalwarts Vinay Sobrun and Madan Dulloo only a few weeks ago.

After the two consecutive defeats, she said she expected changes in attitude and strategies so that the party could function properly and “meet the expectations” of the people.

Hence, she claimed “the activists and the country in general have no time to waste with empty slogans and outdated politics.”

Reacting to the resignation, MMM secretary general Rajesh Bhagwan accused that Dayal’s move has been “orchestrated by the Sun Trust to divert attention away from the Private Prosecution initiated against Pravind Jugnauth.”
