Warm Air Sweeps Mauritius as Thunderstorms Loom After 12:00
Isolated thunderstorms and moderate showers are set to hit parts of Mauritius this Friday afternoon as a warm, unstable airstream settles over the region.
The Mauritius Meteorological Services issued the warning at 04:30 today, Friday 27 March, noting that while the morning began with fair weather, conditions are expected to deteriorate after midday.
Regional Breakdown
Cloud development is anticipated across the West, North-West, and the central plateau.
These areas are likely to experience localised showers, which may turn moderate and be accompanied by thunderstorms.
Residents in other parts of the island can expect partly cloudy skies throughout the day.
While the rain is expected to persist into the early evening, the sky is forecast to clear overnight, leading to mainly fair conditions.
Temperature and Wind
It remains a warm period for the island, with temperatures reaching:
- Coastal Regions: Highs of 30°C to 33°C; lows of 23°C to 25°C.
- Highgrounds: Highs of 26°C to 28°C; lows of 19°C to 21°C.
Winds are currently blowing from the South-East at approximately 15 km/h, though they are expected to become variable as the night progresses.
Marine and Coastal Conditions
The sea remains moderate beyond the reefs, featuring South-Westerly swells of approximately 2 metres. Mariners and beachgoers should note the following tide times:
- High Tides: 09:40 and 23:31
- Low Tides: 04:49 and 16:44
The sun will set this evening at 18:15, following a 06:16 sunrise.
At 04:00 this morning, atmospheric pressure was recorded at 1014 hectopascals.
