Junior Environment Minister Joanna Bérenger has resigned from her government post, declaring her continued allegiance to the “militant values” embodied by her father, MMM leader Paul Bérenger.

The announcement, made via social media on Monday, follows the high-profile departure of Paul Bérenger, who stepped down as Deputy Prime Minister last Friday.

Ms Bérenger’s exit marks a significant shift in the administration, mirroring her father’s move just days prior.

A Pledge of Loyalty

In a statement posted to her Facebook page, Ms Bérenger framed her departure as a matter of principle.

“I believe in militant values and I have confidence in the one who has embodied them best for 50 years,” she wrote, referring to her father’s half-century of political leadership.

She noted that this commitment to core values was the primary motivation behind her decision to step down.

Ministerial Legacy

Ms Bérenger served for 15 months at the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change. Reflecting on her tenure, she expressed gratitude to the civil servants and officers she worked alongside.

“I thank from the bottom of my heart the officers and civil servants from whom I have learned a great deal over these last 15 months,” she stated.

Before her departure, the outgoing minister issued a final plea to her former staff, urging them to maintain their integrity.

She reportedly asked them to “always think of the country above all else” when making future policy decisions.
