STC Intensifies Import Strategy to Secure Essential Goods
The State Trading Corporation (STC) has launched a series of international tenders for essential food items as part of a strategic shift toward a more “aggressive” market presence.
The move follows recent statements by Commerce Minister Michaël Sik Yuen, who confirmed the STC’s intention to broaden its range of imported goods.
This expansion aims to bolster national food security and ensure a steady supply of staples at competitive prices.
Current Tenders and Procurement
International calls for tender issued this month specifically target the procurement of:
- Edible oils
- Pulses
- Canned foods
Building a Supplier Network
In addition to active tenders, the STC is inviting eligible companies to register as official suppliers.
The corporation seeks to establish a robust “pool” of providers to guarantee consistency in the supply chain.
The registration drive covers a wide array of categories, including:
- Dairy: Powdered milk
- Dry Goods: Flour, pulses, and edible oils
- Canned Goods: Fish and other preserved foodstuffs
- Hygiene: Baby nappies
The initiative marks a clear transition for the STC as it seeks to play a more dominant role in the importation of essential commodities, ensuring that the local market remains resilient against global supply fluctuations.
