Detectives investigating the disappearance of Yogeshwaree Bhunjun have identified her partner, Dr Arvind Ramchurn, as the alleged mastermind behind her murder following a series of dramatic arrests.

The Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) took three additional suspects into custody on Saturday, 14 March.

Under intense interrogation, one individual confessed to the killing, claiming he acted on orders from his employer, who had reportedly been instructed by Dr Ramchurn to carry out the crime.

Evidence and Confessions

A second suspect has also admitted involvement after being confronted with “overwhelming” evidence, including footage from Safe City surveillance cameras.

Current police theories suggest the motive for the killing stems from domestic disputes and allegations of infidelity.

Searches are currently focused on the Rivière-Noire region, where the victim’s body is believed to have been disposed of at sea.

Large-scale recovery operations, which began Saturday night 14 March, remain ongoing.

The Investigation So Far

Ms Bhunjun, a mother of two from Plaine-des-Papayes, was first reported missing on 23 February.

At the time of her disappearance, her two young children were reportedly left home alone.

Dr Ramchurn, a medical professional, was arrested last week on suspicion of murder. While he denies any involvement, forensic teams discovered bloodstains inside his 4×4 vehicle.

The doctor has dismissed the findings, claiming the stains originated from meat purchased days prior; however, scientific analysis is pending to confirm the biological origin.

Conflicting Accounts

Before his arrest, Dr Ramchurn filed a “precautionary measure” with police, stating that:

  • He had visited another woman in the Vacoas area shortly before Ms Bhunjun vanished.
  • The couple had argued at their Fond-du-Sac home, after which he claims Ms Bhunjun left of her own accord.
  • He maintains he has had no contact with her since that dispute.

On Thursday, 12 March, forensic specialists and MCIT officers conducted a thorough search of a property in Vacoas to gather further evidence.

As the search for the body continues, the three new suspects remain in custody alongside Dr Ramchurn.
