Police Launch Investigation after Patient Falls from 5th Floor of SAJ Hospital

Police have opened an investigation after a 58-year-old man fell from the fifth floor of the SAJ Hospital Wednesday afternoon, 6 May, shortly after being discharged.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:00 pm on Wednesday.

Witnesses reported seeing the man jump from a transom window on the hospital’s fifth floor.

He landed on a third-floor terrace, sustaining severe injuries.

Emergency Response and Surgery

The SAMU (Emergency Medical Service) provided immediate on-site treatment before the man was rushed into emergency surgery.

The victim suffered a serious injury to his right leg during the fall.

Current Condition

Following the surgical procedure, the patient was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Medical staff currently describe his condition as serious.

Ongoing Investigation

Members of the hospital staff who witnessed the fall are assisting authorities with their enquiries.

Police investigators are now working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, noting that the man had only just received his medical discharge prior to the fall.
