A major reshuffle at the National Agency for Drug Control (NADC) has seen the appointment of a new Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer, effectively ending the tenure of Dr Fayzal Sulliman.

In a statement issued today, Wednesday 1 April 2026, the NADC confirmed that Nadia Peerun has been appointed as Chairperson of the Board, while Kunal Naik takes over as Chief Executive Officer.

The announcement signals a definitive change at the top of the institution. While the official communique did not explicitly detail the termination of the previous leadership, it confirmed the installation of the new CEO.

Reports indicate that the outgoing head, Dr Fayzal Sulliman, was informed this morning that his contract was to be rescinded.

Government Mandate

In a joint declaration, Ms Peerun and Mr Naik stated they had been approached by the government to take on these roles.

They expressed a commitment to working “constructively with NADC members and relevant partners” to progress the agency’s current objectives.

Professional Profiles

The NADC highlighted the extensive experience of the new appointees:

  • Nadia Peerun (Chairperson): An experienced professional in health policy, governance, and harm reduction. Her background includes significant work with the NGO PILS, as well as collaborations with the United Nations, the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Global Fund, and the SADC.
  • Kunal Naik (CEO): A psychologist-addictologist and specialist in drug policy. He has extensive local and international experience, having worked with the Mauritius Country Coordinating Mechanism and PILS, alongside international bodies such as the UNODC, the African Union, and the WHO.

The transition comes as the agency looks to leverage this international expertise to strengthen health systems and harm reduction strategies within the country.
