Mauritius Tops Africa IQ Rankings with 86.56 Average Score

Mauritius leads African countries in intelligence, according to a ranking published on Friday by The African Exponent. The list is based on data from the World Population Review and research by Richard Lynn and David Becker in their book The Intelligence of Nations. The ranking uses average IQ scores to highlight educational and cultural differences across the continent.

Mauritius ranks highest with an average IQ of 86.56. This is credited to its diverse educational system, democratic government, and influences from France, India, Africa, and China.

The country also has a high literacy rate and a growing number of university students, including many internationals.

These factors show that a small nation can excel academically through good management of education.

North African countries dominate the top five spots, reflecting the impact of educational reforms and historical intellectual traditions.

Surprisingly, smaller nations like Seychelles, Madagascar, and Comoros outperform larger, wealthier countries.

For example, Seychelles is sixth with an average IQ of 78.76, thanks to its high human development index, quality education system, and colonial heritage from Britain and France.

Madagascar ranks ninth with an average IQ of 76.79. Its education system, influenced by France, is improving despite infrastructural challenges.

Emphasis on community-based teaching and reading skills contribute to its score.

Other notable countries include Libya at second place with an average IQ of 80.92, and Tunisia at third with 79.22.

These results show that intelligence levels across Africa are more closely linked to educational quality and cultural factors than to population size or economic wealth.
