Gas Prices Soar as 12kg Cylinders Hit Rs 250
Households across the nation face an immediate spike in living costs as the price of a 12kg cooking gas cylinder rises by Rs 60, effective from midnight.
The Ministry of Commerce confirmed the price hike today, shifting the cost of a standard 12kg cylinder from Rs 190 to Rs 250.
This significant increase comes into force as of midnight tonight, following an official announcement on Radio Plus.
Global conflict driving costs
The Minister of Commerce, Michael Sik Yuen, attributed the sudden “escalator” rise in domestic gas prices to a sharp surge on the international market.
Speaking live on air, Mr Sik Yuen cited the ongoing conflict in the Middle East as the primary catalyst for the volatility in global energy costs.
Further increases looming
The Minister also issued a warning regarding the wider cost of living, stating that the prices of other “commodities” could see upward adjustments in the near future.
While he did not provide specific details on which goods would be affected, he offered a brief assurance regarding transport fuel, noting that petrol prices are “not at risk for the time being.”
