The provisional charge of firearms possession against activist Bruneau Laurette has been officially dropped, it was confirmed this Wednesday, 8 October. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) made the decision to abandon the charge, which has stood against Mr Laurette since his arrest in December 2022.

The decision was relayed to the Moka Court this Wednesday, where it was accepted, and the court subsequently struck out the provisional charge.

Arrest and Activist’s Reaction

The case stemmed from an operation conducted by the Special Striking Team (SST) at Mr Laurette’s residence on 8 December 2022, which led to his initial arrest.

Speaking after the court’s decision, Mr Laurette welcomed the development while maintaining his version of events regarding the original police operation.

“I am today free of this accusation,” he stated, adding that he has “always said that it was a planting of the pistol and bullets in my room by two police officers.”

He further commented on his persistent efforts to clear his name, declaring: “I have been constant in my approaches to the authorities and the IPCC for the truth to be recognised.”
