Three construction workers are receiving specialist treatment for severe burns after the crane they were operating struck a high-voltage overhead cable in Notre-Dame, Montagne-Longue, on Thursday, 26 March.

The incident occurred during a routine unloading operation when the arm of a truck-mounted crane made accidental contact with a live power line.

The resulting electrical discharge struck all three men—identified as Mauritian, Bangladeshi, and Malagasy nationals—who were in the process of moving timber from a shipping container.

Emergency Medical Response

Emergency services transferred the victims to Victoria Hospital, where they remain under clinical care.

Two of the workers have been admitted to the specialist Burns Unit for serious injuries, while the third man is being treated in the Male Burns Unit.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have confirmed that a formal inquiry is now underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the industrial accident.

Investigators are expected to examine safety protocols on-site to determine how the crane came into contact with the high-tension wires.
