Dawood Rawat Joins 58th Independence Day Events at Prof. Hassan Raffa SSS
The Prof. Hassan Raffa State Secondary School (SSS) in Terre Rouge chose a symbolic figure to mark the 58th anniversary of Mauritius’ Independence. Mr. Dawood Rawat, the former Chairman Emeritus of the ex-BAI (British American Investment) Group, was the Guest of Honour at the school’s official ceremony held this week.
The event was characterised by a particularly prestigious welcome. Mr. Rawat was received with full honours by the management of the state institution, the teaching staff, and a vibrant assembly of students.
Following established protocol for national day celebrations in schools, Mr. Rawat performed the traditional reading of the Prime Minister’s official message addressed to the youth of Mauritius.
The act of an iconic private sector figure reading the Head of Government’s speech in a state school added a unique layer of solemnity to the proceedings.
After the formal reading, Mr. Rawat addressed the audience directly.
In a speech described as being “imbued with dignity,” he laid heavy emphasis on the transformative power of education and the necessity of perseverance, urging the younger generation to remain steadfast in their pursuit of excellence despite the obstacles they may face.
For those in attendance, it was a day to celebrate not just the birth of a Republic, but a citizen who continues to stand tall with his fellow countrymen.
