The 5 Year Mystery of Kistnen Death Deepens with New Alleged Evidence
Startling new allegations surrounding the 2020 death of political activist Soopramanien Kistnen have emerged in a sworn affidavit filed before the Supreme Court, five years after his charred remains were discovered in a Telfair sugarcane field.
The document, which has reignited a case that gripped Mauritian public opinion, details claims of suspicious financial rewards, the administration of drugs prior to death, and the coordinated transport of the victim’s body.
These claims, however, remain unproven in court and are being strenuously contested by those named.
Medical and Financial Allegations
According to the affidavit, the deponent alleges that Kistnen—a prominent MSM activist in the Moka/Quartier-Militaire (No. 8) constituency—was injected with a powerful painkiller before his death.
The statement claims these substances were sourced from a healthcare professional and administered by third parties.
Furthermore, the whistleblower highlights a “suspicious lifestyle” led by the family of an individual allegedly involved in the events. The deponent claims to have witnessed:
- Large sums of cash kept within a family home.
- Acquisitions of property and vehicles deemed disproportionate to the family’s known official income.
- The alleged use of a specific vehicle to transport the victim to the Telfair region where he was eventually found.
Denials and Counter-Accusations
The claims are reportedly based on conversations the deponent had with the widow of a man allegedly involved in the affair.
The widow has categorically rejected the accusations. While acknowledging she had been in contact with the author of the affidavit, she formally contests the statements attributed to her.
Local reports suggest she has since filed a complaint for harassment and threats against the individual behind the sworn statement.
A Long-Standing Mystery
The death of Soopramanien Kistnen in October 2020 was initially treated as a suicide, a theory that was quickly challenged and subsequently discarded.
The case has since seen numerous judicial twists as investigators seek to clarify the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
While this latest legal filing provides a new lead for discussion, authorities emphasise that the contents of the affidavit are currently mere allegations.
They must now be scrutinised and verified within the framework of appropriate judicial proceedings.
