Mauritius Targets Indian Travel Boom with Major New Partnership

Mauritius is set to become a top-tier destination for Indian travellers following the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) and leading travel firms Thomas Cook (India) Limited and SOTC Travel.

The collaboration, signed on 10 February 2026, aims to significantly boost the island’s visibility across India’s metros and rapidly growing Tier 2 and 3 markets.

By leveraging Thomas Cook’s omnichannel reach and destination expertise, the partnership focuses on driving sustained demand for leisure, corporate, and multi-generational travel.

A Multi-Faceted Strategy

The agreement was formalised by Rajeev Kale and SD Nandakumar, representing Thomas Cook and SOTC respectively, alongside MTPA Director Benoît Harter and Chairman Dinesh Burrenchobay. The initiative will concentrate on three core pillars:

  • Destination knowledge and education
  • Product development
  • Marketing communications (Marcomm)

Beyond the Beaches

While Mauritius is famed for its turquoise lagoons and lush landscapes, this new campaign will spotlight the island’s Creole heritage, festivals, and religious diversity.

These cultural links offer a “familiar yet distinctive” appeal for Indian visitors, further supported by practical advantages such as visa-free access and short flight durations.

Broad Market Appeal

The partnership seeks to capture a diverse demographic, ranging from honeymooners and “GenS” travellers to the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector.

With world-class convention facilities and luxury resorts, Mauritius is increasingly positioned as a premier hub for corporate team-building and integrated meeting infrastructure.

“This partnership marks a significant milestone,” said SD Nandakumar of SOTC Travel. “It will enable us to showcase the destination’s depth and diversity while driving demand across all segments.”

Thomas Cook, established in 1881, remains India’s leading omnichannel travel provider, offering services from foreign exchange to value-added holiday packages.

Under the 1996 MTPA Act, the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority continues its mandate to promote the island’s unique tourism proposition on the global stage.
