33 Traffic Violations Now Linked to License Points as Midnight Deadline Passes
Automobilists across the nation are facing a significant shift in road regulations as the new penalty points system officially comes into force at midnight 31st January. The scheme, which aims to crack down on traffic violations and improve road safety, will see 33 specific road infractions subject to sanctions under the new framework.
Modernising Road Safety
Speaking at the launch of the Korek SuperApp in Ebène on Friday afternoon, 30 January, Minister of Transport Osman Mahomed expressed his confidence in the system’s ability to foster a “change in behaviour” among road users.
The move is seen as a pivotal step in the government’s strategy to reduce accidents and encourage more disciplined driving on Mauritian roads.
Real-Time Monitoring
To support the transition, the government has integrated digital tracking into the enforcement process. Minister of Technology Avinash Ramtohul highlighted that drivers will be able to monitor their status via the newly launched Korek SuperApp.
“Thanks to the Korek SuperApp, drivers will be able to consult the number of points associated with their license in real time,” Minister Ramtohul stated.
