Weather: 3-Metre Swells Trigger Urgent Warning for Western & Southern Lagoon Users
Public advised against sea excursions as Vacoas weather station reports three-metre swells and gusts of up to 50 km/h. The meteorological station has issued a warning this Saturday, 10 January, advising the public against venturing into the open sea or the lagoons of the West and South.
Conditions beyond the reefs remain hazardous, with southwest swells reaching heights of approximately three metres.
Authorities noted that while average winds will blow from the east-south-east at 20 km/h, gusts could peak at 50 km/h during passing showers.
Current Conditions and Forecast
The prevailing weather is currently being driven by clouds approaching from the east.
Residents can expect partly cloudy to overcast skies, with showers expected to concentrate over the East, South, and the Central Plateau.
While the weather is predicted to be largely fair as the day progresses, subsequent showers are anticipated across the eastern half of the island and over higher ground. Elsewhere, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy
Regional Temperatures
Mercury levels will remain warm despite the damp conditions. Maximum temperatures are forecast to reach:
- 25°C to 27°C on the Central Plateau.
- 29°C to 32°C across coastal regions.
Overnight Outlook
Showers are expected to persist through the night, primarily affecting the South, East, and elevated terrain.
Overnight lows will dip to between 20°C and 22°C on the heights, while the coast will see more temperate minimums of 24°C to 26°C.
