A magnitude 4.2 earthquake was recorded today, Friday 26 December, in the waters between Rodrigues and Australia. Despite the seismic activity occurring approximately 400 km from Mauritius, the Vacoas Meteorological Services have confirmed that the quake poses no threat to the island.

While the seismic event has caused no alarm for maritime safety, local residents should prepare for a change in weather conditions. The meteorological station reports that:

  • Afternoon showers: Rain is expected across the East, North, and the Central Plateau.
  • Intensity: These showers may become moderate at times.
