Heavy Rain Watch: 3 Key Regions to Bear Brunt of Torrential Downpours
The adverse weather, which is facilitating the formation of active cloud systems near the island, was confirmed by a bulletin from the Vacoas Meteorological Station issued today, Friday, November 7. A heavy rain warning has been issued for Mauritius, effective until 4:00 PM this Friday, as the island nation faces humid and unstable atmospheric conditions.
Torrential Downpours and Thunderstorms Expected
The meteorological alert highlights a forecast for partly cloudy to cloudy skies this morning, with showers concentrated primarily in the North, East, and Central Plateau. Crucially, these downpours are expected to be locally moderate and could become temporarily strong.
- Afternoon Outlook: The rain is predicted to extend towards the South, with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms.
- Overnight: Conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy, with further showers at times in the North, East, and Central Plateau.
Temperature and Wind Details
Temperatures across the island will see highs ranging from 23 to 26 °C in the elevated regions and 28 to 31 °C along the coasts.
Overnight, minimum temperatures are set to drop to between 17 and 19 °C on the Central Plateau and 21 to 23 °C on the littoral.
The wind will be blowing from the north-east at 10 to 20 km/h, but is expected to temporarily strengthen with gusts during periods of rain.
Maritime and Safety Advice
Sea conditions beyond the reefs are described as rough, with south-westerly swells reaching approximately 2 metres.
The public is strongly advised to take precautions, including:
- Remaining in safe places and avoiding open areas, hiking, or sheltering under trees during thunderstorms.
- Steering clear of locations prone to water accumulation.
- Exercising caution on the roads due to reduced visibility.
