In the North of Mauritius, a series of burglaries targeting upscale homes has raised concerns. Over recent months, several high-end residences have been broken into, with total stolen goods valued at nearly Rs 10 million.

The first incident occurred in March when a French retiree reported a break-in at Villa Malibu in Pereybère.

Thieves stole Rs 40,000 in cash, 2,000 euros, luxury watches, a diamond ring, pearls, other precious stones, and personal documents including his wife’s passport and ID card.

The total loss was estimated at around Rs 2.7 million.

In May, another burglary took place at the home of an insurance company director in Grand-Baie.

The thieves stole several pieces of jewelry, three iPhones, and a safe, amounting to an estimated Rs 6.2 million in damages.

On July 17, a villa in Merville, Pereybère, was targeted. Items stolen included a Chanel watch and several bottles of spirits, with the total stolen goods valued at Rs 1 million.

The Northern Division Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) has been investigating these incidents. They arrested a 30-year-old fisherman from Grand-Gaube, but he was released after questioning.
