Health Ministry to Pay Out Outstanding Overtime in July 2024

The Ministry of Health has announced its intention to pay all outstanding overtime and allowances to hospital staff on the island, dating back to 2023. The ministry has stated that the Sunday Allowance for the relevant period will be paid through bank transfers.

Regarding the payment of Rs 2,000 to each official who participated in a Team Building exercise, the ministry said it is awaiting clearance from the Ministry of Finance before proceeding with the payment.

The details of these decisions were communicated to leaders of the Government Servants Employees Association and the State and Other Employees Federation during a meeting with Health Minister Kailesh Jagutpal on Monday.

According to Radhakrishna Sadien, President of SOEF, this decision affects thousands of officials from various categories working in hospitals, including nurses, health care assistants, attendants, and doctors. This payment is a result of a series of meetings presided over by the Minister and his technical team.

“We are very pleased with the outcome of these meetings, particularly after presenting the budget,” said Sadien.

He also took the opportunity to mention that he met with the Cabinet Secretary on Public Service Day last Sunday and learned that the participation form intended for officials was aimed at setting up logistical arrangements.

He requested that government include trade union leaders in the organizing committee for next year’s Public Service Day.

Sadien also highlighted during Monday’s meeting that the Ministry of Health is currently establishing Area Health Centres and a cancer hospital.

“There is a staffing problem that needs to be addressed,” he said, noting that while recent appeals were made to support staff, technical cadre recruitment is necessary.

The president also emphasized the need for the Ministry of Health to ensure that safety standards are respected for hospital workers.

Regarding Overtime and Allowances 2023, employees at Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, SSRH, and Dr Bruno Cheong will receive their dues in July for the period January-April 2023.

Those at J. Nehru and Victoria hospitals will receive their reimbursement for January-March 2023 and will be paid in July as well.
