New security feature for Rs25 and Rs50 polymer banknotes
As from Friday 29 October, upgraded polymer banknotes of Rs25 and Rs50 denominations will be legal tender concurrently with the existing current family of banknotes.
This was announced by the Bank of Mauritius on October 28.
The new banknotes will carry a new security feature, the “GeminiTM”, which is a dual fluorescent feature visible under UV light.
By using two UV inks that appear as one colour under normal lighting conditions but as two colours under UV illumination, GeminiTM is said to create a significant technology barrier.
