Anti-Covid jabs used in Mauritius not recognised in the EU
As Europe readies the deployment of the EU Digital COVID Certificate (previously called the Digital Green Certificate) to facilitate the safe and free movement on the continent, the non- recognition of anti-coronavirus vaccines used in Mauritius comes as a serious setback.
The only vaccines reportedly accepted by EU so far are those or Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca (Oxford) and Johnson&Johnson.
In Mauritius, 413,473 people have been inoculated with Covishield (AstraZeneca – India), Covaxin (Bharat Biotech) and Sinpharm.
Hebdo/Defi Media has cited WHO representative Dr Laurent Musango as stating that his organization will plead for the recognition of these vaccines used so that travel between Mauritius and Europe is allowed.
The Prime Minister’s Office has reportedly “opened a line of communication with diplomatic missions on the island to negotiate that Mauritian travellers be exceptionally considered.”
