In a significant expansion of the nation’s diplomatic landscape, the United Arab Emirates is set to establish a formal embassy in Port Louis following official approval from the Mauritian Cabinet.

The move, confirmed during a Council of Ministers meeting held this Friday, 8 May 2026, marks a deepening of bilateral cooperation and a new chapter in the relationship between the two jurisdictions.

First Resident Ambassador Appointed

To lead the mission, the government has formally agreed to the nomination of Ahmed Naser Ali Al Dahmani.

He will serve as the first-ever resident UAE Ambassador to Mauritius, providing a permanent high-level diplomatic presence in the capital.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The Cabinet’s decision to accede to the Emirati government’s request is viewed as a strategic step to consolidate existing ties.

The establishment of the mission follows a period of increasing engagement between the two nations, now solidified by a resident diplomatic framework.

The announcement was a key outcome of the week’s ministerial deliberations, highlighting the growing importance of the UAE as a partner in the region.
