Tragedy at Tamarin as Wave Sweeps 84-Year-Old Woman to her Death
An 84-year-old woman from Vacoas has died after being swept away by a wave while sitting on the shore at Tamarin on Monday,13 April.
The victim was reportedly sitting on the sand with her feet in the water when a sudden wave pulled her out into the sea.
An autopsy conducted on Monday evening confirmed the cause of death as asphyxia due to drowning.
Immediate Rescue Efforts
The tragedy, which occurred on the morning of 13 April, prompted an immediate rescue attempt.
The woman’s son and several bystanders rushed to her aid after she got into difficulty.
Witnesses pulled her from the water and attempted to perform resuscitation on the beach while waiting for emergency services to arrive at the scene.
Medical Response
A rapid response team from C-Care arrived by ambulance shortly after the incident.
However, despite the efforts of those on the beach and the medical personnel, the attending doctor could only certify the woman’s death.
