Rs 3 Million Phone Heist: 2 Arrested After Bagatelle Tech Theft

on

Two men are in custody following a major security breach at a Bagatelle electronics store, where 37 smartphones were stolen in a suspected “inside job.”

The suspects, aged 19 and 24, were apprehended on Monday, 23 March, in Vuillemin, Quartier-Militaire, after an internal investigation into the missing stock.

Both individuals appeared before the Moka Court where they were denied bail and remanded in custody.

The Internal Breach

The investigation was triggered yesterday morning when a store employee was reportedly caught in the act of stealing three iPhone 17 Pro handsets.

This discovery prompted management to conduct a full inventory of the premises, which revealed a much larger deficit.

In total, 37 high-end devices were missing. Investigators noted that there were no signs of forced entry at the shop or its warehouse, suggesting the perpetrators had direct access to the secure areas.

Rapid Response and Arrests

Detectives from the Eastern Division Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) led the operation, acting on “credible intelligence.”

Within hours of the initial discovery, the 19-year-old and 24-year-old suspects were located and arrested.

During the police operation, four smartphones were recovered as evidence. The suspects have since been handed over to the Moka Criminal Investigation Division (CID) for further questioning.

Evidence Gathered

The store is equipped with an extensive CCTV network covering both the shop floor and the storage facilities.

Authorities are currently reviewing the surveillance footage to establish the full timeline of the thefts.
