Mauritius Hosts 5 Strategic Nations to Tackle Urgent Global Security Challenges

A high-level international delegation from the National Defence College of India has met with Mauritian authorities to discuss pressing strategic challenges, ranging from climate resilience to artificial intelligence.

Led by Air Marshal Manish Kumar Gupta, the delegation met with Mauritian authorities on Monday, 1 June, at the Ministry of Housing and Lands.

The visiting group comprises delegates from India, France, Armenia, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and several other nations.

The wide-ranging talks focused heavily on the unique challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

Key areas of discussion included social housing, national development, climate resilience, and food and energy security.

The delegates and Mauritian officials also explored technological advancements, looking into artificial intelligence opportunities and the digital transformation of land management, alongside hydrography.

Mauritian Minister Shakeel Mohamed outlined that the primary objective of the visit is to bolster international cooperation and facilitate the sharing of expertise among the participating countries.

Reflecting on the meeting, Minister Mohamed praised the relationship between the host nation and New Delhi.

“Mauritius and India share a longstanding and valued friendship built on mutual respect, cooperation and shared aspirations,” he stated on his official Facebook page.

The Minister added that he firmly believes meaningful exchanges of knowledge and experience between nations foster greater understanding, mutual respect, and lasting friendship.
