Mauritian Customs Seize 2 Cannabis Shipments Valued at Over Rs 11 Million
Customs officials have seized two separate shipments of suspected cannabis with a combined street value of MUR 11.67 million. The operations, led by the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) through its Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS), took place at local parcel processing centres.
The largest of the two seizures occurred on 9 March 2026, at the Plaisance Air Transport Services (PATS) centre.
Following a targeted profiling exercise at the DHL hub, officers intercepted a package that had arrived from South Africa on flight SA190. Although the illicit cargo had landed in Mauritius, its final intended destination was the Seychelles.
Upon physical examination, authorities discovered five transparent glass jars hidden inside two cardboard boxes.
These jars contained 6.78 kilograms of compressed plant matter suspected to be cannabis. The MRA has estimated the market value of this specific haul at MUR 10.17 million.
A second, distinct parcel was also intercepted during these operations, bringing the total valuation of the seized narcotics to the MUR 11.67 million mark.
Investigations into the origins and intended recipients of the packages are ongoing.
