Tehran’s envoy to Mauritius claims US and Israel are trapped in a “quagmire” as he warns that any base used to launch attacks against Iran—including Diego Garcia—remains a legitimate target under an “eye for an eye” doctrine.

TEHRAN – Iran’s outgoing ambassador to Mauritius, Hassan Alibakhshi, has declared that his country has already secured victory in its current conflict with Israel and the United States, claiming the Western powers are now desperately seeking an “honourable exit” from a crisis of their own making.

In an exclusive interview with the weekly newspaper Star, Mr Alibakhshi, speaking from Tehran, described a nation emboldened rather than broken by external pressure.

He rejected the narrative of a country at its breaking point, insisting instead that the Iranian people are united by a “deep historical memory” and a refusal to yield their sovereignty.

‘Eye for an Eye’

The diplomat issued a stern warning regarding regional security and the use of foreign bases by American forces.

Addressing the sensitive issue of Diego Garcia—the Chagos Islands territory at the heart of Indian Ocean military strategy—Mr Alibakhshi remained officially cautious but pointedly firm on future intent.

While he declined to confirm reports of previous missile strikes on the island, citing a lack of official military declaration, he was explicit regarding Iran’s retaliatory doctrine.

“We strike where we are struck, and without distinction,” he said. “We can strike Israeli soil, but not American soil.

Therefore, we are obliged to strike the positions that the Americans use to strike us. It is eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth.”

Regional Tensions

The ambassador also directed sharp criticism toward Gulf neighbours, accusing several Arab states of betraying the principles of “good neighbourliness.”

He alleged that some nations have transitioned from neutral observers to active participants, serving as “rear bases” for Iranian enemies.

“They are the ones who have endangered our security,” he said, justifying Tehran’s logic for regional reprisals.

A Nation ‘Stood Up’

Despite “moral and material losses” caused by Western sanctions, Mr Alibakhshi painted a portrait of a resilient, “millenary civilisation” that has only grown more cohesive under threat.

He claimed that the country remains wealthy and that internal differences are set aside the moment a foreign threat emerges.

According to the envoy:

  • National Unity: Iranians are reportedly thronging public squares “day and night” in a show of collective defence.
  • Resilience: Sanctions have failed to produce their intended effects, with the ambassador claiming the country continues to progress.
  • Determination: The diplomat stated that the majority of citizens he meets daily are calling for the “continuation of the battle” and seeking vengeance.

“We give our blood, but we do not give our soil,” Mr Alibakhshi said, quoting a popular protest slogan.

He concluded that the current geopolitical climate represents a “decisive turning point” for the Middle East, with Iran positioned not as the aggressor, but as a target of an imposed war it is now winning.
