Fog and Thunder to Strike as 20 Kilometre Winds Hit the East Coast
Rough seas and overnight thunderstorms are set to disrupt Mauritius as a shift in weather patterns brings localized showers and heavy fog.
Maritime authorities have issued a warning against venturing into the open sea as conditions deteriorate.
Waves are expected to reach heights of 2.5 metres beyond the reefs, driven by south-westerly swells.
Overnight Thunder and Fog
While the morning and afternoon will remain partly cloudy, the weather is expected to take a sharp turn after dark.
Met Office forecasts indicate periods of cloudiness tonight, bringing showers that may turn moderate in intensity.
These will be accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and the development of fog patches in several regions, potentially impacting visibility for late-night commuters.
Regional Breakdown
The arrival of clouds from the east will primarily affect the eastern half of the island and central heights.
Residents in these areas can expect more frequent showers compared to the rest of the country.
Wind speeds will maintain a steady 20 km/h from the east, though gusts are likely to pick up during rainy intervals.
Temperature Outlook
Despite the unsettled conditions, temperatures will remain warm across the coast.
- Coastal Regions: Highs will reach between 28°C and 32°C , dropping to a minimum of 23°C to 26°C overnight.
- Central Plateau: The high ground will be noticeably cooler, with daytime maximums between 24°C and 27°C and nighttime lows dipping to 19°C.
Small craft and those planning activities in open waters are advised to remain cautious until sea conditions subside.
