Dr Joomaye Faces FCC Warning Over Rs 77.9 Million Pack & Blister Affair
The Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) has intensified its investigation into the “Pack & Blister” affair, summoning Dr Zouberr Joomaye for a lengthy interrogation “under warning” on Monday, 13 April.
Dr Joomaye, a former advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office under the previous administration, spent several hours answering questions regarding the government’s procurement of medical ventilators during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Rs 77.9 Million Contract
The investigation centres on the acquisition of Pack & Blister branded respirators, a deal worth 77.9 million MUR.
The FCC is currently scrutinising the circumstances and executive decisions that led to the awarding of this substantial contract at the height of the global health crisis.
During the session, Dr Joomaye provided investigators with detailed explanations concerning his involvement and the decision-making processes prevalent at the time.
Investigation Ongoing
Following the conclusion of the interview, the former advisor was permitted to leave the FCC premises. However, authorities have indicated that the probe is far from over.
Dr Joomaye is expected to be summoned for further questioning as the commission continues to piece together the events surrounding the controversial procurement.
