FCC: Air Mauritius Senior Manager Arrested Over Alleged Fraudulent Car Sale at Rs 200K
A senior executive at Air Mauritius was arrested by the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) on Wednesday, April 8, following allegations of financial impropriety involving the undervalued sale of a company vehicle.
Amba Manikum, a Senior Manager at the national airline, was taken into custody after being questioned “under warning” at the FCC headquarters in Réduit Triangle.
The investigation centers on the disposal of an Audi Q5 belonging to the company.
The Discrepancy
According to investigators, the luxury vehicle was sold to Mr Manikum’s partner for Rs 200,000. However, the market value of the car at the time of the transaction was estimated to be significantly higher, at Rs 750,000.
Resale and Profit
The probe further revealed that the partner subsequently resold the vehicle for Rs 750,000, effectively pocketing the difference.
As part of the ongoing inquiry, she was also summoned to Réduit Triangle for questioning by commission officials.
The FCC’s investigation continues as they examine the circumstances surrounding the authorization and execution of the initial sale.
