US Military Boeing C-17 Lands in Mauritius to Support New Embassy Project
United States Air Force Boeing C-17 Globemaster III has touched down at Plaisance airport as part of a dedicated logistics mission for the construction of the new US Embassy in Moka.
The heavy-lift transport aircraft arrived on Tuesday, 7 April, from Djibouti to deliver a substantial cargo specifically destined for the diplomatic building site.
It is scheduled to depart on Wednesday, 8 April, returning to its point of origin.
Mission Clarification
Despite the routine nature of the delivery, the aircraft’s presence on the tarmac has drawn significant public attention and sparked local speculation given the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Lormesh Bundhoo, CEO of Airports of Mauritius, moved to address these concerns directly, confirming that the landing is strictly related to the embassy project.
“This landing has no link with the ongoing conflict,” Mr Bundhoo stated. “It is to transport a significant cargo intended for the construction of the future United States embassy in Mauritius.”
Logistics and Timeline
The Boeing C-17 Globemaster III is a staple of American military transport, capable of carrying large-scale equipment and materials.
This specific operation underscores the scale of the Moka embassy development, which requires specialised international logistics to move essential construction components.
The aircraft’s brief stay at Plaisance serves as a technical stop to offload the materials before it continues its regional circuit back to Djibouti.
