CNT Suspends HR Manager following Major Internal Audit
The Human Resource Manager of the Compagnie Nationale de Transport (CNT), Ritesh Kumar Hurchund, has been suspended from his duties with immediate effect following the findings of an internal audit.
The decision to suspend Mr Hurchund, who has held the senior position since 2019, was confirmed by CNT Director Harvin Soonarane. The move comes after the board of directors commissioned a report into departmental operations, the results of which were delivered earlier this week.
Administrative Measure
While the suspension includes the maintenance of Mr Hurchund’s salary, officials have been quick to categorise the move as a procedural necessity rather than a final disciplinary sanction.
“This administrative measure is part of an internal process aimed at shedding light on the elements raised in the report,” Mr Soonarane explained.
The Director further clarified the timeline of events:
- The Audit: Commissioned by the board of directors to review internal procedures.
- The Report: Received by management yesterday and subsequently forwarded to the company chairman.
- The Action: Management was instructed to take “necessary arrangements,” leading to the current suspension.
Wider Departmental Impact
The fallout from the audit appears to extend beyond the HR Manager. Mr Soonarane revealed that other members of the same department are also “concerned” by the audit’s conclusions, though specific details regarding the nature of the observations have not been disclosed.
Crucially, the CNT leadership clarified that this investigation is entirely separate from the recent suspension of three bus conductors (receveurs) within the organisation.
Next Steps
An internal inquiry is expected to continue over the coming days to further investigate the issues highlighted by the auditors. Mr Hurchund remains on paid leave pending the outcome of these investigations.
