A major infrastructure milestone was reached this Wednesday as the Minister of National Infrastructure, Ajay Guness, officially inaugurated the B70–A23 New Link Road.

The project, which cost MUR 15 million, establishes a vital connection between La Vigie and Flic-en-Flac.

Crucially, the new route includes a direct link to La Brasserie, a move specifically designed to streamline traffic flow and alleviate long-standing congestion in the area.

Strategic Timing for Pilgrimage

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Guness highlighted the strategic importance of the project’s completion.

The opening is timed to address the expected surge in vehicle volume during the upcoming Maha Shivaratri festival.

According to the Minister, La Brasserie traditionally experiences exceptionally heavy traffic during this period of pilgrimage and celebration; the new infrastructure is intended to serve as a pressure valve for the local road network.

Public Access

Motorists will not have to wait long to use the new bypass. The authorities have confirmed the following schedule for the road’s rollout:

  • Official Opening: Wednesday (Inaugurated)
  • Public Access: Tomorrow (Thursday)
  • Time: From 10:00 am

The B70–A23 project represents a significant investment in the region’s transport efficiency, aiming to provide a more fluid commuting experience for residents and visitors alike.
