60+ Dogs Found in ‘Deplorable’ Conditions at Illegal Trou-aux-Biches Structure
More than sixty dogs have been discovered in a deplorable state at an unlicensed property in Trou-aux-Biches following an urgent animal welfare investigation. The alarming discovery was made on Friday morning, December 12th, after the Mauritius Society for Animal Welfare (MSAW) received a tip-off. The animal welfare institution immediately dispatched officers to the site.
Neglect and Grim Findings
Investigators found that several of the animals had been left unattended and were without vital supplies, including food and water. Among the neglected dogs, a particularly aggressive Cane Corso was identified.
Further compounding the gravity of the situation, MSAW officers also noted the presence of animal bones and a skull on the premises.
These remains have been transferred to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for urgent analysis, confirmed Tinagaren Govindasami, the Director of the MSAW.
Owner Faces Severe Penalties
The owner of the illegal structure now faces potential prosecution for breaching the Animal Welfare Act. If found guilty, they could face a substantial fine of up to Rs 500,000 and a custodial sentence of up to ten years in prison.
