Government’s 3-Month Push to Prevent Floods at Canal Dayot
The government has prioritized the Canal Dayot project in its efforts to combat flooding. Fabrice David, a local representative for constituency No. 1 and junior minister, confirmed this in a statement to lemauricien.com.
With heavy rains expected in three months, work is speeding up at Canal Dayot to prevent water from rising.
Junior Minister David described this as a “race against time,” emphasizing the government’s determination to succeed.
The main focus of the work is cleaning the drains. However, some drains have become inaccessible due to new sidewalks built over them.
These will need to be demolished and rebuilt to ensure proper drainage.
Additionally, the municipality has issued a call for bids to carry out dredging and desilting in the St. Louis River, supporting the flood prevention efforts.
The government assures that all actions will follow sustainable development principles to protect residents’ lives.
